TsAGI represented at HISAC International Project

June 18–19, 2009 the HISAC International Conference was held in 3AF clubhouse in Paris (l’Association Aéronautique et Astronautique de France). The major aero engineering production companies, state enterprises, research institutes — TsAGI n. a. prof. N. E. Zhukovsky, CIAM n.a. P. I. Baranov, NASA, Eurocontrol, ONERA, EADS, DLR, NLR, CNRS, RUAG, JAXA, as well as EC representatives took part in conference activities.

The conference was devoted to 6FP HISAC project termination (the project start date was May, 2005). The Russian team consisted of TsAGI, GSS and CIAM. Their activities were aimed at investigating the ability of reducing the sonic boom in the business super jet (BSJ). TsAGI has proposed jointly with GSS an aerodynamic BSJ configuration with a low sonic-boom level that enables cruise flights over populated areas. TsAGI scientists presented a report on «Technologies and key trends for BSJ sonic-boom reduction." S. L. Chernyshev, Director General of the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute spoke at a conference, reviewing Russian science achievements in sonic-boom investigations and on the analysis of a number of results obtained within the HISAC project. Currently, there are neither international rules nor international norms to regulate the sonic-boom intensity level. Evaluation criteria and admissible sonic-boom values have yet to be established. Hence, solving these challenges in designing low sonic-boom aircraft are key targets when developing next generation supersonic passenger aircraft and the business super jet (BSJ) aircraft.
