The Workshop on EC FP6 NACRE Project held in France

The Workshop on EC FP6 NACRE (New Aircraft Concepts REsearch) Project was held in France July 21−25. Workshop participants considered the final stage of experiments on NACRE WP3.2.3 that would be performed in Faustovo under the coordination of TsAGI.

The NACRE project is targeted at three advanced airliners concept studies:

  1. low production-cost medium-haul aircraft;
  2. regional eco-aircraft with reduced noise and emissions;
  3. long-haul Simple Flying Bus.

Four major project partners contributed to the Workshop: Airbus, TsAGI, Rolls-Royce and SNECMA. In the course of collaboration, technical specifications were generated for researching the high power engine fragment (of predefined rotational and translational kinetic energy) impact on the aircraft structure or on the protective shield. «GkNIPAS," a functional co-executor of TsAGI within this NACRE WP, took part in the Workshop as well.

The Workshop enabled the conclusive and the most complicated phase of joint experimental activities on modeling the impact of rotating fragments and tested structural components. The experimental and theoretical research on this issue is planned to be completed in April 2010.
